I am a fan of Emily the Strange, and I recently started reading 'Emily the Strange The Lost Days' as well as playing the Emily the Strange DS game (both Christmas presents I got from a friend). Anyway, It occurred to me that I've never made a Kyaraben (a character bento), and there is also an appalling lack of Emily The Strange Kyaraben... so I made one!
If you've ever read the book or looked at the artwork, the main colors are Black, White, and Red... so those are the colors I used in this bento.
Close up of Mystery, my favorite of Emily's 4 cats. She's the oldest of the 4 and the only girl. She helps solve mysteries, and she can be told apart by the others with her one curled whisker and the star on her collar. she also sometimes has a star on her left eye.

- 1 Strawberry
- 6 Cherry Tomatoes
- 10 Beanitos Chips (Pinto Bean Chips)
- 1 Babybel Light Cheese (with Star cutout. Stars are a symbol for Mystery, the cat featured in the bottom tier of the bento)
- Salsa (over a layer of Spinach and Baby Carrots)
- Decorations (Made out of Corn Tortilla and food safe markers. I cut out the letters with mini food cutters, and the other shapes I cut freehand with a knife)

OMG! That's EPIC, Kat! X-D The pictures came out so great! Oooh, I hope you do more of these bentos! ^_^
ReplyDeleteThank you Julie. I am looking forward to making more kyaraben bentos in the future. Now that I have the foodsafe markers I thik it'll be a bit easier for me to make them since I don't have to worry about shaping onigiri into faces or anything like that. Though it would be nice to have those Hello Kitty cutters or other bento accessories. I'd totally make Hello Kitty bentos too.
DeleteHOLY CRAP!!! Those pictures are AWESOME!!!! It's so pretty and epic! You're such a fangirl. LMAO!!! Love it!!!
ReplyDeleteThank you so much! and yeah I am a total fangirl. lol

ReplyDeleteThis is so adorable, I love seen bentos like this.
ReplyDeleteI was wondering how you did the cutouts, I love them; do the food safe markers have flavored?
Thank you! No The foodsafe markers are just food coloring in marker form, and don't taste like anything.
DeleteI drew with the markers onto a corn tortilla, and then I cut it out with a knife. The letters were made using mini cookie cutters.
I actually have no idea what a bento really is? (I'm English, that might be why) But it looks super cool ;D ETS is amazing! Well done :)
ReplyDeleteThank you. A Bento is a Japanese Lunch Box.
DeleteWow! You're pretty talented!
ReplyDeleteThank you so much! :)
DeleteEmily and Mystery turned out GREAT, this lunch is so fun!
ReplyDeleteSounds like we have a lot in common - I lost about 60lbs a few years ago and am all about the vegetarian bentos these days! I'm looking forward to following your blog
Thank you so much, I worked really hard on those drawings. I hope you enjoy my blog.
DeleteI love this so much! I can't even tell what my favorite part is - the salsa on the bottom or the wonderful images and words! ^^ I might just have to make an "Emily the Strange" bento. hehe
ReplyDeleteThank you so much! I am so glad you like it, and I'm happy I inspired you to make an Emily the Strange bento as well. Enjoy!
