Piggies in Blankets Bento

I saw a cute piggy norimaki bento a few weeks ago and it was such a cute idea, so I bookmarked the page so I would be able to make something similar. Though my piggies are not sushi... they are more like pigs in a blanket.
My fiance grilled chicken sausages and chicken hot dogs for dinner, and I made corn on the cob... and I realized I had the perfect opportunity to try out the little piggies. Since I didn't have any nori to wrap them in or decorate the faces with, I took two slices of gluten free bread and I cut off the crust, then rolled them flat with a rolling pin. I wrapped two grilled chicken hot dogs in the bread and sliced them to size.
I place the rolls in one of my cute piggy bento boxes and I cut some corn on the cob to fit into the other side. I decorated the corn with a cucumber pig and a tomato piggy face.
I cut cucumber peel with a tiny heart cutter and used that to make the ears and snouts on my little piggy rolls. And I used whole grain mustard for the eyes. Aren't they cute? I am happy with how cute they came out.
  • Chicken Hot Dog
  • Gluten Free Bread
  • Cucumber
  • Cherry Tomato
  • Whole Grain Mustard
  • Corn on the Cob
Soooo cute! I just wish I had a better camera so you could see it without the blurry pictures...
And here I am holding up one of my piggies in a blanket.

    1. Yaaay!!! Thank you. I'm happy with how they came out. I wasn't sure what I could use to make the faces since I don't have nori or nori punches, and that's what most people use. But I tried out the mini heart cutter on cucumber peel and it worked out well. I tried doing it with tomato skin and bread crust first, but the tomato skin wouldn't cut well, and the color of the crust was too similar to the piggy faces, so you couldn't see it very well. I'm glad the cucumber peel worked so nicely.
